Laksha Dantran presents Far Within: A Contemporary Dance Production

Engage with questions of unconditional love and human nature through this visualization of a trans woman’s nightmare during an isolating global pandemic. She saddens about the fragile state of humanity, but daymares a better world. This dance video will be presented via a live showing. Dancers: Tuli Bera, Keely Morris, Mary Ann Delacruz, Ashwaty Chennat and Laksha Dantran. Videography and Editing: Jacob Klippenstein and Peter Dorman.


 

About the Artist:

Laksha Dantran is a professional Indian classical Bharatanatyam dance artist in Chicago. Laksha’s training in Bharatanatyam began at the age of 10. She later joined the Kalakshetra Foundation College of Fine Arts in Chennai, Tamil Nadu India, and successfully completed a 6-year professional certification in Bharatanatyam while working as a tutor.

Laksha’s work largely focuses on LGBTQ perspectives and her own experiences as a trans woman. She has presented and performed with Mandala South Asian Performing Arts, the Indo-American Center, The Fly Honey Show, SheWolf Sacred, and more. Laksha is  a 2019 3Arts / HMS Fund Awardee as well as a 2019 SPARK Microgrant recipient for visual arts, and she has toured throughout India, Belgium, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, and the United States. Laksha strongly believes that art is nothing but a cosmic energy of genderless love.

Bo Frazier (Artistic Producer)
Bo Frazier (they/them) is director, performer, producer and choreographer. They are a highly visual and compositionally driven theatre artist interested in poetic, riveting and radically inclusive works that highlight marginalized narratives while queering the dramatic form. Favorite projects include: Konstantin (Dixon Place), Hit the Wall by Ike Holter, Men on Boats by Jaclyn Backhaus, Love & Information by Caryl Churchill, and Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Simon Stephens, as well as new plays Dakota Parobek, Courtney Meaker, Leigh M Marshall, and KT Peterson. Currently, they are building Theatre Alexandria alongside an amazing leadership circle here in Chicago and have also worked with Sideshow Theatre Company and Mudlark Theatre Company. Previously based in NYC and London, Bo has worked with companies such as The National Theatre (UK), Birmingham Rep (UK), Signature Theatre (NYC), Dixon Place (NYC), Rutgers Theatre Company, Theatre167 (NYC), Heartbeat Opera (NYC),  Indiana Repertory Theatre and London Theatre Workshop (UK) which they co-founded. MEMBER: SDC, EMC, Ring of Keys. TRAINING: University of Iowa (MFA), Royal Birmingham Conservatoire (MA), Millikin University (BA) and SITI Company.
