Production Team

Chelsey Echevarria
(Event Assistant)

 

Chelsey Echevarria started as an intern and volunteer with Rivendell Theatre in 2014, working on the production Women At War. She has been jumping in to support Rivendell pursuits ever since. She recently completed her Master’s in Women’s and Gender Studies from DePaul University where she focused on Critical Mixed Race Studies and Anti Racist and Latina Feminisms. She has spent the last 8+ years working in youth program development and is eager to continue this work while finding ways to remain a part of the Chicago arts and theatre community as well.

 

Tony Churchill
(
Digital Content Producer)

 

Anthony Churchill collaborates on media for theatre, events, and installations. Recent projections and media with Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Strawdog Theatre, Marriott Theatre, Greenhouse Theatre, Rivendell Theatre, Raven Theatre, The Cher Show, Q Brothers, Porchlight Music Theatre, Silk Road Rising, Theatre Wit, Stage Left, Museum of Broadcast Communications, Big Noise Theatre, and 16th Street Theatre – Berwyn.  Tony has been nominated for five Jeff Awards for Projections, and awarded one. When not working on plays, he enjoys sculpting tiny astronauts in peril, and exploring with his beautiful wife Sara, and rescue pit bull Cheetoh. www.artlabchicago.com.

 

Tara Mallen
(Rivendell Artistic Director / Producer)

An actor, director, producer and the Artistic Director at Rivendell Theatre Ensemble, Tara was most recently on stage in the Midwest premiere of The Cake by Bekah Brunstetter for which she was honored with a 2018 Jeff Award for “Best Actor”. Other recent credits include Sweat (Arena Stage); world premiere productions of Look, we are breathing and The Firebird’s Take the Field, and Rasheeda Speaking (Rivendell); How Long Will I Cry: Stories of Youth Violence (Steppenwolf for Young Audiences). She was part of the ensemble in Rivendell’s World Premiere, The Walls and played Jolene Palmer (inspired by the true-life story of Aileen Wuornos) in Rivendell’s award winning production of Self Defense, or the Death of Some Salesmenboth productions part of Steppenwolf Theatre Company’s Visiting Theater Initiative. She received a Joseph Jefferson award for “Supporting Actress” for her work in WRENS as part of that production’s Jeff-winning ensemble. She was nominated the following year for “Actress in a Principal Role” for her work in My Simple CityScreen credits include Empire (Fox); Boss (Starz); Chicago Fire (NBC); Doubt (CBS/Sony Pictures pilot); Controversy (Fox Pilot); Chicago P.D. (NBC) and Sense8 (Netflix Original series); Steven Soderbergh’s film Contagion and the upcoming feature Swing ShiftTara co-conceived and directed the critically acclaimed World Premiere of Women At War, a theatrical exploration of women in today’s military that played to sold out houses in the fall of 2014 and is now touring throughout the mid-west; she also directed the Jeff nominated Midwest premieres of The Electric Baby by Stefanie Zadravec, 26 Miles (in co-production with Teatro Vista); Fighting Words by Sunil Kuruvilla; Psalms of a Questionable Nature by Marisa Wegerzyn; and the co-production of Elliot, a Soldier’s Fugue with Stageworks/Hudson in Hudson, New York.  Tara is the recipient of a 2017 “3Arts Award” for her work in Chicago as a theatre artist.

 

Catherine Painter
(Rivendell Managing Director)

Catherine Painter, after serving as Rivendell’s grant writer for six years, joined the company as Managing Director in 2020. She is also Executive Director of Cerqua Rivera Dance Theatre and Development Consultant to Praize Productions Inc. She is a member of the faculty at the University of Illinois – Chicago Certificate in Non-Profit Management Program where she teaches classes on Individual Giving and Strategic Leadership. Previously, she consulted with the American Indian Association, Trinity Irish Dance Company, and independent artists, and worked with Victory Gardens Theater, Merit School of Music, Northlight Theatre, and Latin School of Chicago. She holds Bachelor and Master of Science degrees from Northwestern University.
